How to use breed information

Breed descriptions summarize reported tendencies. They are not promises about an individual cat. Socialization, age, health, environment, and prior experience shape behavior and care needs, so meet a cat and ask its current caregiver specific questions.

Weight and lifespan values are broad reference ranges, not clinical predictions. Fit scores are editorial comparisons based on the listed activity, coat, and temperament notes. A score should help frame questions, not make an adoption decision by itself.

Sources and review status

Breed recognition and naming differ among registries. The current CFA sitemap maps to 38 of the 40 selected profiles. The TICA breed directory returned HTTP 403 during checks for British Longhair and Snowshoe, so those two registry details remain unverified. The directory is editorially compiled and has not been reviewed by a veterinarian.
